Choose by the job: a shovel for a trench or a fire pit, a saw for firewood, an axe for thicker timber. Wire and chain saws take up the least room.

Why carry a wire or chain saw?

These saws roll into a small package and weigh little, so they are easy to carry in a pack. They will cut branches and firewood without a full-size saw.

How should an axe and a saw be looked after?

Keep the blades dry so they do not rust, and sharpen them from time to time. Wipe off resin and moisture after use and keep the axe in its case.
