What 20 × 50 means

The first number is magnification, the second is the objective lens diameter in millimeters. The 50 mm objective gathers a lot of light, so the image stays usable at dusk when smaller binoculars have already gone dark. The trade-off is weight and a narrower field of view: 52 m at a distance of 1000 m.

Practical tip

At 20x magnification, hand tremor becomes visible. For longer observation, rest your elbows on something solid or use a tripod — the image steadies immediately.
